In August 2020 The Commons and Thoreau College finalized a contract for the college to take up residence in The Commons. Both organizations look forward to a long term collaborative relationship, co-habiting, maintaining and improving our shared space. Thoreau College has its office and classrooms upstairs and takes lunch in the cafe dining room. In addition to the college making a financial contribution to The Commons, the staff, fellows and students painted the cafe dining room, are learning to drywall the music room ceiling, cleaned up the grounds, and do ongoing custodial maintenance. Thoreau College has now found its own facility and will be residing there as of June 15.
Thoreau College is an experiential learning program inspired and informed by the lives and work of Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862), Rudolf Steiner (1861-1925), and LL Nunn (1853-1925). The college strives to provide a liberal arts education that meets the needs of the whole human being–body, soul and spirit. Read about Thoreau College on their website…
